You win some, you lose some

Whew! Viva Las Vegas! We made it here around dusk lastnight, and it was a long day. A pretty good one, all things considered, except that my radio antennae broke about three hours out of Vegas. This may not sound like a very big deal, but it is. If you are not in the mood to drive in silence, it can be rather boring; not to mention tiring. I listen to my ipod and XM radio through the car radio. No longer. When I try to turn the radio on, it sounds like someone is taking a jackhammer to the front right side of my car. That ought to be a nice, cheap one to get fixed. And I guess I can forget about music selection on the way home. I do have a very few cd’s in the door well that I can choose from- quite a random selection and I’m not really sure how they ended up there: Paul Simon, Rolling Stones, The Pretenders, and a Starbucks Christmas cd. I think I’ll find a music store along the way and add to my wide collection ;) And I was just bragging on my car- I have 96,000 miles, and the radio antennae is the first problem I’ve had, so I guess I should count my blessings.

On another (sour) note, I also just found out that my necklace is not going to be on the cover of Belle Armoire Jewelry, as I previously posted. Sigh, Wimper, Tear. Oh well. Put on my big girl panties. I’m still the featured artist! Not sure why they decided not to put me on the cover, but I am sure that if I hadn’t just spilled those beans on my blog the other day, all would be well and good. I think I shot myself in the foot with that one. Counting my chickens before they hatched. I should have known better. But you’ll all still rush out and buy the issue, whether my beads are the cover model or not, right?!

Enough of the sour grapes, let’s move on to some happier thoughts. I’ve been bestowed an International Art Award by fellow jewelry designer and Bead Queen Margot Potter. The award is given from one blogging artist to another, based on creativity, design, content, and all around artsiness. Pretty fun, huh!

Here are the rules for the Arte Y Pico Award:
1) Pick 5 blogs who deserve this award for their creativity, design, interesting material and also contibutions to the blogging community no matter what language.
2) Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to the blog to be visit by everyone.
3) Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and the link to the blog that has given her or him award itself.
4) Award winner and the one who has given the prize have to show the link of Arte y pico Award blog so everyone will know the origin of this award. (Cut and paste the info into your blog to make things easier).

So I am going to award 5 other clever crafty ones who I think are deserving of this creative crown:

Rice Freeman-Zachary
Candie Cooper
Barbe Saint John
Traci Bautista
Karen Michel

I hope you will take a peek at these other crafty ladies’ blogs!

Okee dokee. I have to go make some jewelry. I’m getting really sleepy with the sun coming through our hotel room window. I helped Aveesh set up his booth this morning, and the APP show is on for him. So now I have to settle down and crank out some jewels. I think a coffee might be in order before I get too far into things, though. It’s that time of day!

I’ll try to check in tomorrow and post some pictures of new work. I have lots of cool beads that will be working their way into jewelry in the next few hours.

TaTa for now-
Carter

Wanna know some secrets?

I have some juicy ones. I’ve been keeping my mouth shut on some pretty cool things, but the cat’s scratching to come out of the bag. So here we go:

I am going be in a book! Divali Glass Jewelry is going to be published in a real, live book. Rice Freeman-Zachary is an author and altered-artwear artist I met on the internet. She writes for several magazines in the art/craft world, and she has authored several books, most recently one called Living the Creative Life. She is talented, smart, and funny, and if you enjoy blogs, you should read hers. She blogs usually at least once a day, and I find myself laughing outloud while reading at least a few times a week. So we struck up a friendship, and have enjoying reading each others’ blogs and chatting back and forth. Well a few weeks ago, Rice asked me if I will be a part of her new book! And what do you think I said? OF COURSE! I’D BE HONORED! So I won’t tell you any of the juicy details, because I am not going to spoil all of the fun just yet. But I have e-mailed my interview responses to her (12 juicy pages of my thoughts!), and the ball is rolling. There are about 15 artists involved, and the book focuses on Creativity. I’ll be sure to keep you posted here, but in the meantime you’ll just have to sit tight. And one day some months from now, you’ll forget that I’ve even told you about this, and I’ll blog and tell you to run to the bookstore and buy the book!

Secret #2: I’m going to be in Belle Armoire Jewelry Magazine, August issue.

A love like that

I mentioned in my last post that we went to see Wayne Dyer the other night. It was nice to see him in person. His speech was good, nothing that powerful, but his messages were beautiful. I had gotten away from the readings that I was really dedicated to last year, for no other reason than lack of time. And hearing Wayne Dyer brought me back to the studies of mindfulness and awareness. I realize that making time for these readings is very important, and will contribute to the quality of my life. I have started reading his newest book again (I started before and got sidetracked), and am really finding my mind consumed with thoughts of choosing the right path, learning to trust in the universe, and sending thoughts of love to everyone I encounter. These are the thoughts that make you feel good, that soothe the soul, that help you pull through those days that seem tough.

One of the lines that Wayne shared with us the other night was so poignant, that I scribbled it down in my notebook to look it up in detail later. This morning I found this excerpt from The Gift by the Sufi poet Hafiz, and I want to share it with you. What a beautiful message this is. In a time of war, violence, hatred, and so much separation among the people of this earth, these words are such a beautiful reminder that love is a powerful thing:

Even after all this time
the sun never says
to the earth,
“you owe me.”
Look what happens
with a love like that-
it lights the whole sky.
-Hafiz

What more can I say? Sometimes love is all we need to give, all we can give. Share your love with all whom you encounter.
